DTE Energy is required by the Michigan Public Service Commission to perform a safety inspection of natural gas meters and the natural gas distribution pipes that serve their customers. Residents in Garden City will be receiving calls from DTE to let them know that DTE will be in your neighborhoods over the next few weeks to perform this important safety inspection and to gain access to their natural gas meters. If DTE is unable to gain access to their natural gas meters, they will leave a door hanger to let you know they were there. The door hanger will include contact information to schedule an appointment at the resident’s convenience. DTE has hired a contractor, Utility Resource Group (URG) to conduct these inspections. All URG contractors carry a DTE Energy ID badge. These inspections are very important to ensure the safety of all of DTE customers. Should DTE have a problem accessing natural gas meters even after several attempts to schedule appointments, DTE will need to consider other measures, up to and including service disruption. While the regularly scheduled safety inspections on their gas distribution system will be conducted through June, DTE will be scheduling appointments to access inside natural gas meters through the end of the year to accommodate customers’ appointment requests.Inspections will be conducted in all of Garden City.
