Along with the four seats for Council and the position of Mayor that are scheduled for the November 7 election, residents will be voting on someone to fill the final two years of Jim Kerwin’s four year seat on Council. Mr. Kerwin passed away in March. Nominating petitions are available in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 6000 Middlebelt, Monday-Thursday, 9 AM- 5 PM.
The following list of requirements must be met in order to file your nominating petitions:
-Candidate must complete and submit a notarized Affidavit of Identity.
(Candidate must declare the position Council – Partial Term ending November 11, 2019, both on the Affidavit of Identity, and on the petitions, prior to circulating.)-Candidate must submit petitions having at least 75, but not more than 125, valid signatures. (Read, carefully, the instructions on the back of the petitions, before circulating.)
-Candidate must present proof of citizenship when filing (birth certificate or passport). Incumbents are NOT required to show proof of citizenship.
Candidate nominating petitions must be filed by 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017.
Election date is as follows:
City General Election – November 7, 2017
All candidate forms and information, including candidate committee information, can be obtained online at the State of Michigan website www.michigan.gov/sos by selecting Elections in Michigan, and Information for Candidates.
It is the policy of the City that candidates may NOT solicit petition signatures on City property.
