DTE Energy recommends the following during a winter power outage:
- Keep children and pets away from downed power lines
- Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines
- Assume all downed power lines are energized and stay away
- Report downed lines to DTE Energy online immediately
- Unplug all heat-producing appliances, especially if you leave your home during the outage
- Know how to reset your circuit breaker
- Leave one light on so you'll know when power is restored
- Keep refrigerator, freezer and cooler doors closed as much as possible

Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can cause sudden illness and death if inhaled. Never use generators, grills, camp stoves or similar devices inside your home, basement, garage, or camper.
